Renowned violinist David Kim gave residents a memorable performance on Wednesday, June 15 at The Hill at Whitemarsh in Lafayette Hill. Named concert master of the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1999, David Kim is performing and giving recitals throughout the world, from the Kimmel to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra to a string quartet tour of Korea.
Critics applaud his lyric mastery. Combining extraordinary musical talent and discipline with a magnificent instrument on loan from the Philadelphia Orchestra, a J.B. Guadagnini from Milan Italy ca.1757, David Kim is an audience favorite.
Born in Carbondale Illinois in 1963 David Kim began playing the violin at age 3 and began his serious studies with Dorothy Delay at the age of 8. He has his Bachelor and Masters degrees from Juilliard.
Kim is dedicated to educating gifted young musicians, giving Master’s classes at schools such as the Curtis Institute, Juilliard, and the Shanghai Conservancy. He does outreach classical performances to elementary schools, over 12,000 young student’s to-date, to cultivate future audiences and inspire young talent.
It will not be the first time his music was heard at The Hill at Whitemarsh. The community has a state-of-the-art theatre with a live feed to Philadelphia Orchestra concerts.
