On August 24th, fellow resident and Philadelphia Art Museum docent, Patty Beck, gave a stimulating talk about the work of Late Renoir. Did you know that of the height of Renoir’s creative powers, he created art that was timeless, enticing, and worthy of comparison to the greatest of the old masters such as Raphael, Titian and Rubens? Patty described how Renoir was devoted to joyful subjects such as frolicking bathers, domestic idylls, drama of the classical mythology and the brilliance of the Mediterranean landscape and sea. His fluid brushstrokes and masterful use of color won the admiration of the emerging modernist avant-garde, who considered Renoir as one of the greatest living artists. Patty Beck also guided private tours of the Late Renoir exhibit at the Philadelphia Art Museum for residents and interested prospects in July and August.
