1. What is a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC)?

A continuing care retirement community, or CCRC, is a residential community with provisions for various health care needs. Residents at The Hill at Whitemarsh enjoy an elegant neighborhood of villas, cottages, and apartments, with the peace of mind of knowing that they have priority access to assisted living and skilled nursing care and rehabilitation right on campus. Residents of a CCRC are provided services throughout the continuum, and are able to move back forth among the levels of service, according to need.

2. Why move to a CCRC?

Most CCRC residents cite the following key reasons for making the decision to move to a CCRC:

  • Freedom from interior and exterior home maintenance
  • A lifestyle rich with cultural, social, spiritual, educational, and physical opportunities
  • Round-the-clock security
  •  Financial certainty: except for normal, annual increase, monthly service fees remain unchanged during the time a resident requires higher levels of service: the ability to project future expenses
  • The ability to make choices for the future now (without needing to rely on children or other family to make those choices later)
  • Social connection and companionship
  • Future healthcare options, if needed

3. Who monitors or regulates CCRC’s and the financial and care operations of these communities?

In Pennsylvania, CCRC’s are regulated by the Pennsylvania Department of Insurance. Win addition, the assisted living residence is directly regulated by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare. The skilled nursing unit is directly regulated by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

4. What choices do I have about the types of residency plans?

The Hill at Whitemarsh offers two residency plans, both of which feature life care:

  • 90% refundable plan: 90% of the entrance fee is returned to the resident or their estate
  • Traditional Plan: a lower entrance fee in which the refundability declines over 45 months

Please contact our sales consultants for more detailed information and to determine which residency plan best suits your needs.

5. What happens if my needs change?

Residents at the Hill at Whitemarsh enjoy the peace of mind knowing that if their needs change at any time they will have access to the entire continuum of care, including private accommodations in Oakley Hall, our exceptional assisted living residence and Mather House, the comprehensive skilled nursing center.

6. What if my spouse and I have different needs?

At The Hill at Whitemarsh, couples can receive the individualized care they need while living on the same campus.

7. Can I have a pet at The Hill at Whitemarsh?

Yes, we welcome well-behaved furry friends!
