Creating Memorable Dining Experiences

Patrick Moen, The Hill at Whitemarsh’s Director of Dining

Patrick Moen started as The Hill’s new Director of Dining in February 2023, bringing with him over 20 years of executive chef experience. From owning restaurants to operating corporate dining programs, he has honed a remarkable ability to unite teams and drive them toward exceptional execution.

“The Hill is all about creating a good culture, and that includes the culinary experiences,” said Patrick.

Adding new and interesting opportunities invigorates both residents and staff, whether it be the popular create-your-own salad in the Café for lunch, dining in a more trendy setting with special wine and food pairings in the newest dining venue at Hawk Ridge, or joining the new “Chef’s Table” in the main dining room on Thursday evenings.

“It is all about choice and variety at The Hill,” said Patrick. “The staff here are quick to learn the likes and dislikes of our residents and are eager to help make the dining experience as unique to the individual as best they can.”

While Patrick has fun experimenting with new ideas, he is keenly aware of the importance of honoring personal preferences and paying attention to food aversions or allergies. A daily mix of elevated foods and comfort foods can be found on the menu, no matter where residents choose to dine, and the experience is always held to the highest of standards.

“Our main dining room is fine dining and has the feel of a luxe country club,” said Patrick. “Hawk Ridge is open on Thursday and Friday nights only, and many of our residents use it as a date night experience. We also have options that are more casual, like the Café, where residents will take their grandchildren, and the Pub, which has live music and entertainment. There really is something for everyone, and the staff aims to deliver everywhere.”

Having spent over 10 years operating the dining programs at high-end retirement communities, Patrick refuses to rest on his laurels when it comes to providing residents with the best possible dining experiences—no matter where they choose to dine. And since the dining team designs the menus for every Hill eating establishment, Patrick remains open to getting input from residents about their personal favorites to make sure they always feel the comfort of home.

“I’m very committed to listening to residents and making appropriate changes when necessary in order to make them happy,” said Patrick. “I’m very results oriented in my approach.”

Patrick’s goal is to continue to create new and inventive dining experiences for residents of The Hill, and he does not see a limit to what he and his team can achieve.

“It’s important to love what you do because you need to be passionate and knowledgeable in order to operate at a high level,” said Patrick. “I never want to hit a wall; I want to keep creating wonderful experiences for the residents, especially new residents who are just discovering dining at The Hill.”

“It is all about choice and variety at The Hill. The staff here are quick to learn the likes and dislikes of our residents and are eager to help make the dining experience as unique to the individual as best they can.”
